For me…Rainy weekends are the pits! I hate going out in the rain, but it becomes hard to entertain the Littles inside. They get so restless! Sometimes, I wish, I was a go play in the rain, kinda momma, BUT, I’m not! So, I am always looking for fun activities inside. Check out our favorite places in Atlanta for Rainy Day Fun for Kids.
Legoland– Offers the ultimate lego experience, with an indoor playground. Kids will stay entertained with over 12 attractions and rides. Kids can see their favorite LEGO characters on screen in the LEGO 4D Theater and build their own lego creations. Legoland is located inside Phipps Mall, the covered parking garage makes this perfect if you are like me and want to avoid the rain at all cost! Be warned, you have to walk through the LEGO shop before leaving. If you’re like me, start telling the kids in the car not to ask for any LEGOs.
Center for Puppetry Arts‘ – Is the United States’ largest organization dedicated to the art form of puppetry. Focused on three areas: performance, education and museum, it is one of the few puppet museums in the world. Take the kids to see a puppet show and stay to walk through the World of Puppetry Museum. Kids will learn about puppets from all over the world, as well as see some of their favorite characters from Sesame Street, Muppets, and Fraggle Rock! Entertain the kids with something different at the Center of Puppetry Arts, perfect for a fun, rainy day in Atlanta!
All Fired Up– “Atlanta’s best pottery painting and clay studio”. With over 700 items of pottery, including cups, plates, bowls, household/kitchen items and a large range of fun pieces for kids, there is something for everyone here. This is a more low-key rainy day activity involving creativity and focus. Perfect for all the young artists in the family. Kids paint a clay figure of their choice. They also offer clay play if you want to get fancy with your experience. My Littles are pretty young, so we stick to painting! All Fired up is an excellent outing when the weather is not ideal, but you need something different to entertain the kids. We had a great time!
Hippo Hop– Jump around, Jump around, Jump up and get down🎤🎵! If you want to wear them out, then Hippo Hop is perfect. A couple hours in this place and they will be exhausted. Hippo Hop is full of bouncy houses, an indoor playground, obstacle courses and slides. There is a large toddler-only play area, which provides the littler ones with a space to be adventurous and explore without the rowdy big kids getting in the way. They also have a full snack bar, and comfy chairs for parents to relax while kids run wild. Hippo Hop offers all you need for your kids to have a fun rainy day in Atlanta!
Fernbank Museum– My kids love the Fernbank! The dinosaur bones alone are enough to make their day, but there is so much more here! Travel around the world and back in time, discovering dinosaurs, live animals, ancient fossils, prehistoric cultures and new science discoveries. You can also catch a movie on the giant screen currently showing Australia’s Great Wild North and Sea Lions Life By a Whisker. Fernbank is also amazing when the weather is beautiful as the WildWoods and Fernbank Forest allows you to explore 75 acres of outdoor exhibits, breathtaking walking trails, a canopy walk, native wildlife and nature playgrounds.
Children’s Museum– Experience a world of hands-on exploration & discovery that sparks imagination & inspires learning. The exhibits are designed for children up to eight years old, and sparks the imagination, sense of discovery and learning through the power of play. My daughter loves the grocery area & Waffle House restaurant. My son enjoys The Climber and Rocket Launcher. They also have art and kinetic sand stations that are must hit areas. There’s always interactive story time that the Littles get excited about.
Pro Tips: Bring an extra shirt, there’s a fishing exhibit where my kids always end up soaked. There’s also no snack bar, just a couple vending machines, so pack a lunch, there is a space with tables up top for snacking.
Many of these options offer annual memberships that are beyond worth it if you think you may want to return again. I mean, we will definitely have more than one rainy day, even if that’s the only time you visit (which it won’t be, the kids will be asking about going back before you’ve even pulled out the parking lot).
If you leave and the sun is out, check out our favorite Atlanta Kid & Parent Friendly Patios, I’m sure you’ve earned a cocktail!
